Standing On A Chair

Telling it like I see it…

Rants from the Chair: On Governor Rick Scott

I don’t want to sugar-coat it or anything, but our new Florida Governor Rick-the-Crook Scott is frightening me beyond my wildest imagination.  I’ve literally been curled into the fetal position, sucking my thumb and drooling in a cup since his recent budget proposals became public.

Don’t get me wrong.  I may be a registered Democrat, but I’ve been known to cross party lines on lots of occasions.  My leanings fluctuate depending upon the candidates and the issues.

I probably mentioned previously that I am a bit of a news junkie.  I use the term “bit” because I actually know someone who is way worse than I.  He watches only the news, every waking hour when he’s not at work.  I swear to God, his “viewing room” at home has so many TV news screens going, complete with feed crawlers, it looks like the floor of the New York Stock Exchange.  Me?  I’m satiated by reading the daily newspaper, checking the Internet and watching local and world news each night if I can.  Truth be told though, I’d love to add a daily New York Times and Miami Herald to my routine.  But if I did that, I’d never leave my house.

What Mr. Scott wants to do is create jobs for our state.  To do that, he is proposing to fire thousands of public and state workers in an effort to shrink government.  He wants to de-fund things like mental heath services, health care and education.  Hello!  How many people will lose their jobs as a result?  Somebody said almost 9,000.  And then there’s the Federal high-speed rail billions he just turned down.  How many jobs would have been created with that project?

He hates the Feds.  We get that.  In fact he hates the Feds so vehemently, he stole billions from them via his health care chain by defrauding Medicare.

And that reminds me:  How in the flying fuck did a crooked billionaire, with absolutely no political experience, get elected as our governor?  What in God’s name were the people of the State of Florida thinking?  It’s embarrassing.

I am praying the Legislature will not give this draconian dick-wad what he wants.  But again, I don’t want to sugar-coat it or anything…

Remember, this is my take on the thing.  Just sayin’.

  1. No one would ever accuse you of being a shrinking violet!
This is from a children’s campaign newsletter I receive:
“…. an amazing 80% of the $3.6 billion* in proposed cuts would target children’s education, health, welfare and justice related services. The cuts came with nary a penny of new revenue to salve the sting.”

  3. Too many Republicans in Florida, I’m afraid. I guess the same is true in Wisconsin. We’re running into this kind of stuff (well … shit, I should say) here in Colorado but we have a great new Democratic Governor so maybe we have a chance.
And, please, my friend, don’t start sugar-coating now!!
