Standing On A Chair

Telling it like I see it…

Rants from the Chair: On What’s Good

Holy Mother of God the entire world has flushed itself down the crapper.  Anyone who isn’t living under a rock knows that.  Just read the newspapers.  Bad tidings literally explode from the pages, blowing back my hair like a hurricane-force wind.  I get so pissed off, most mornings will find me standing up and roaring as I crumple the newsprint into a ball and stuff it violently into my recycle bin.

So what do we do about giving thanks on Thanksgiving this year?  One has to be pretty creative in finding silver linings among the dung heaps cropping up all over the globe and in our daily lives.

Here’s my feeble attempt:

What’s Good is a glass of cold, full-bodied chardonnay after a long and stressful work week.

What’s Good is the light-as-a-feather feeling you have after your morning bowel movement.

What’s Good is that first cup of freshly brewed Starbucks Café Verona.

What’s Good is picking flowers with your grandson who wants to give his mommy a pretty bouquet.

What’s Good is being able to fast-forward through commercials.

What’s Good is when funny things make you laugh so hard you can’t stop.

What’s Good is holding your new grandbaby close.

What’s Good is being swept away by an amazing book.

What’s Good is walking into a room and being transported by someone who gives you a genuine smile.

What’s Good is making your beautiful daughter laugh.

What’s Good is a high school reunion full of people you’ve known and loved for a lifetime.

What’s Good is a client who has stuck with you from the very beginning.

What’s Good is exhaustion after making love (um, if my memory serves me…)

What’s Good is a complete night’s sleep filled with dreams you can remember.

What’s Good is having family close by.

What’s Good is being old and still not having to take pharmaceuticals.

What’s Good is forgiving, and being forgiven.

What’s good is people reading my blog, and liking it.

What’s Good is not being dead.

May your 2011 Thanksgiving Celebration be Laden with Love and Laughter

  5. Yes, Jill, you have all of the goods listed! Love your writing and sense of logic, wonder and humor. We have to get that road trip organized after the Holidays.
